St. Francis of Assisi's blessing of the animals

We were blessed today at the
Cathedral Basilica Catholic Church,
35 Treasury Street, St. Augustine on the plaza downtown
for the annual Blessing of the Animals
St. Francis of Assisi's Love for all Animals Day

The people sang while the dogs barked...

a prayer was said for the animals

and the priest walked around sprinkling
holy water on us all.

Augie was a little concerned that he might
melt from the holy water because of all
the lizards, worms, and crabs he's eaten.

and Xia anxiously awaited the blessed water
because she is doggy-do-no-wrong.

Here is the prayer that was said on the behalf of all
of God's creatures:

“Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.”

Pretty Awesome!

  1. That's so beautiful! We had blessings here, too, today, although our place is much smaller.
