Lost Dog Tips

When I ran away, my person went into full force pet detective mode. I would like to share some of the steps she took to find me. Hopefully my dreadful experience can be a learning tool for others who have lost their way.

If your a Jacksonville Florida dog, there is a website for area lost dogs http://www.jaxlostpets.net/
Maybe other areas have a dedicated site for lost pets in your area.

Craigslist has a lost/found section and the pets section.
Go to http://www.craigslist.com/ find your area and post a lost ad. That's how the nice lady who found me, found my home. My person posted my picture on Craigs list as Lost Dog. The lady who found me checked Craigs list to see if there was a posting about me and sure enough she found it!

http://www.kijiji.com/ is another classified site that my person posted my Lost Dog ad on. It looks like it's owned my Google. There is a free templete where you can make a lost dog poster to pass out and hang up in the surrounding area where your dog got lost. It even provides the tear off phone number tabs for people to take with them.

http://www.facebook.com/ My person posted a link to my Lost Dog poster on her wall asking people to forward it on their page and she also poted it on all the local news channels wall...the local Humane Society wall and the local dog parks wall.

http://www.twitter.com/ If you have local area people on your Twitter list then tweet about your lost pet. You can also tweet a photo.

And then of course your pet should be tagged with their home's phone number and/or home address. And some pets are microchiped. But if your microchipped you should still be tagged.

I am microchiped but I didn't have tags, so unless I was taken to the shelter or somewhere to be scanned then no one would ever know I was microchiped.

My microchip company is http://www.24petwatch.com/ They are opened 24/7 and will notify your people the minute they are called with a report of your lost pet.

If your lost, then your people should post about you on these sites. If you've found a dog then please look on these sites for any postings regarding lost dogs.

Be safe and remember to always where your tags.
Me, Xia, and Augie jingle like Christmas now...sometimes we even bark at ourselves!

Leave a woof or a meow, whichever wags your tail :)
